SIM Cards in India for Mobile Phones
It’s easy to get a SIM card for your mobile phone when you get to India, and having one makes your trip a lot easier.
How to Get a SIM Card for Your Mobile Phone in India
Most international airports have Airtel or Vodafone booths in the arrivals area. You can buy a pre-paid SIM card at the desk and top it up there, at your hotel, or at an Airtel or Vodafone outlet in any city. NB: You’ll need a passport-sized photo and a copy of your passport for the forms.
Airtel SIM cards cost Rs.420 at the airport and you can top up the card in denominations of Rs. 100.
You can also purchase a SIM card at any mobile phone retail outlet in most Indian cities.

If you want to get data on your phone in addition to calls, you can set it up at the airport or by calling customer service.
If you have a Blackberry, customer service will tell you that you have to get a post-paid SIM card in order to get data, but this isn’t true. See below for information on how to get data on your Blackberry.
