Sample Itinerary for India: The Golden Triangle

Taj Mahal

One Week Itinerary for India: The Golden Triangle
Cities Visited: Delhi, Agra (Taj Mahal), Jaipur

Fly into Delhi and spend your first two days seeing India Gate, Hanuman’s Tomb, art and cultural museums, the Red Fort, the Baha’i Temple, and the city’s many markets.

On your third day, take a train to Agra and visit Agra Fort and the “Baby Taj”. Wake up early the next morning to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, then spend the rest of the day visiting nearby Fatehpur Sikri.

That evening board a train to Jaipur, the third city that makes up northern India’s “Golden Triangle.” Spend your fifth and sixth days visiting Amber Fort, Jaipur City Palace, Galta, the Jantar Mantar, and Jaipur’s famous markets.

Alternately, take a detour to Ranthambore National Park on your fifth night/sixth day for a chance to see one of India’s famous tigers on a jungle safari.

On your final day, take a train back to Delhi to catch your flight home.

To extend this itinerary for a second and/or third week, see the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan itinerary and The Northern Route itinerary.
