Govind Hotel in Jodhpur, India

Govind Hotel Rooftop Restaurant

The Govind Hotel in Jodhpur is highly recommended in many of the guidebooks for India.

Unfortunately, the books aren’t quite as truthful as one would hope, at least when it comes to the Govind.

While the owner of the Govind Hotel (a man known in the Rajasthan hotel circuit as the Godfather) is amiable and kind, the hotel he runs leaves much to be desired.

Rooms at the Govind that come with “air conditioning” barely have more than a weak fan.

Linens are spotty and towels threadbare. Rooms are full of mosquitoes.

Hot water is turned off on warm days even when the room rate specifically states that hot water is provided.

The Govind Hotel’s roof deck restaurant, which also gets good reviews in guidebooks, serves mediocre food and makes patrons pay for toilet paper if they need to use the washroom.

If you’re going to Jodhpur, avoid the Govind Hotel. I recommend the Ratan Vilas hotel instead.
