Airlines that Fly within India

India’s Domestic Airlines

Many people visiting India choose to fly from place to place instead of taking overnight trains or long bus rides. Below is a list of Indian airlines that fly within India.

As you’ll notice, the quality of the airlines vary from excellent to rather poor, so make sure to do some reserach before you book your flights.

Kingfisher Airlines
The best of all of India’s airlines, Kingfisher Airlines has great service and offers in-flight meals even on flights lasting less than an hour. With hubs in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Hyderabad, and Delhi, Kingfisher has flights throughout India.

Jet Airways
A close second to Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways also raises the bar for good service and provides meals even during short flights. With hubs in Delhi, Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), Chennai, Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), Jet Airways has a significant number of flights within India.

Air India
A no-frills airline, Air India does not serve meals in-flight and often has one or more stops on direct flights. Government-owned and operating flights both within India and internationally, Air India’s extensive number of flights is the only reason to fly with them.

IndiGo Airlines
Low-cost and no-frills, IndiGo offers low fares from Delhi to many other Indian destinations.

Deccan (Kingfisher Red)
Deccan (Kingfisher Red) is now part of the vast Kingfisher empire, and as such its quality is improving from its formerly mediocre standards. From its hub in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), Deccan flies to many cities throughout India.

Indian Airlines
Reliable with baggage handling but no frills, Indian Airlines, which was recently acquired by Air India, is known minimal in-flight service.  Indian Airlines is in the process of merging with Air India, so expect to see some overlap.  Based in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Indian Airlines has flights throughout India.

SpiceJet
Low-cost SpiceJet is a good option for those that don’t need extra leg room and want to save a few rupees on a seat. Based in Delhi, SpiceJet has flights throughout India.

JetLite
The budget version of Jet Airways, JetLite offers less frills than the excellent Jet.  It still retains the quality of its parent airline, though, so you can expect good food and service on your flight.  From its hubs in Delhi, Mumbai (formerly Bombay), and Hyderabad, JetLite has flights throughout India.

Go Air
With a 15kg bag allowance and delays on many flights, Go Air is not the ideal airline to fly with within India.

Paramount Airways
A business class airline, Paramount Airways is known for good service and offers in-flight meals. It has flights within India out of its hub in Chennai to other cities in south India.
